How To JOIN Clips in Davinci Resolve

Learn how to quickly edit video and join clips in Davinci Resolve.  Why might you want to join clips?  If you are recording your video with a DSLR, your camera may split a single video recording session into multiple files.  There are several reasons for this, but rejoining the clips in Davinci Resolve to make one video file can be a big help when editing your video.

If you are working with multiple cameras that gave you multiple files for each recording session, I’d recommend joining each cameras clips together to give Davinci Resolve a better chance to automatically align the footage using the multicam feature.

It’s super easy - check out the video!

BEST Lenses for Family Trips

What are the best lens to use when you are on a family trip?  In this video, I’ll tell you my favorite 2 lenses to use while I’m out with my family.

When I’m on a trip with my family, I want a lens that is wide enough so I can capture a great image without getting too far away from the rest of my family. If you have younger kids, you know that staying close to them is very important.

What lenses do you use on family trips?  Leave a comment below!

DIY Video Studio Setup for Cheap

Setting up a simple video or photography studio can be easy and you can use things you already have laying around.  In this video, I’ll show you a small studio I set up at my church to record video.  Here are some of the items I used to create the studio space:

  • White Backdrop (could be a sheet, table cloth or anything big enough to cover the background)
  • Black Backdrop (could be a sheet, blanket, etc.  Used to block light and stop lights from bouncing.)
  • Cardboard boxes to block out windows
  • Moving blankets hung on the wall to prevent echo and deaden sound.
  • Lights

With a little creativity and using things you already have laying around, its easy to create a simple studio setup.

Davinci Resolve Is Awesome for Video Editing and FREE!

If you are looking to up your video editing game for FREE, look no further.  Blackmagic’s Davinci Resolve 15 is a free video editing software that will give you the tools you need to boost the quality of your video editing.

Over the last few months, I’ve been thinking about what video editor I can use to replace iMovie and Screenflow.  Those programs are great (and I still use Screenflow a lot), but I was looking for more tools to use while creating videos than those programs were able to provide.

I wanted to use Adobe’s Premiere Pro, but I wasn’t ready to pay for the full creative suite subscription price just yet.  I only learned about Davinci Resolve recently and I never knew it existed!  This program is on par with Adobe Premier.

There is a bit a of learning curve when moving to advanced editing software such as Resolve,   but there are lots of great tutorials out there on how to use the program.  As a photographer who also works with video, I wanted to share my experience finding and using Davnici Resolve.

To download Davinci Resolve for FREE, check out their website:

What Kind of External Storage Do You Use?

I’ve been using a 2nd Generation 4-bay Drobo for a number of years now and I’m looking to upgrade to a newer, faster and larger storage system.  What do you use for external storage and do you like it?

I am leaning towards going with another Drobo since I’ve got all the hard drives already and I’ve never had a problem with my current Drobo.  I’m currently using a mid 2015 Macbook Pro as my primary machine.

I'm intersted to hear some input from others.  Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment below if you do!

pdn Photoplus Expo comes to NYC - Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 2014

The annual Photoplus International Conference and Expo is coming to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City from October 29th to November 1st!  If you are in the New York City area, I would recommend stopping by to check it out.  Access to the Expo is free as long as you register before October 28, 2014.  Here is a link to the Photoplus website:

pdn Photoplus International Conference + Expo

There are also a variety of other paid options where you can attend:  seminars, classes, keynote presentations, networking events, etc.  At the link below, you will find the various pricing options:

2014 Registration Pricing

I have been attending the expo for the past few years and have always really enjoyed it.  It is a great place to see all kinds of new gear, software, products, etc. as well as talk with others who are in the industry.  You can tryout equipment, listen to free talks on the expo floor, check out printers, paper types, lighting setups, bags, tripods, and much more.  So if you are in the area while the expo is in NYC, stop by and check it out!

Gloomy Morning Photographs

Foggy, wet, a little cool outside.  May not seem like ideal conditions to get out and shoot some photos, but I bet if you venture out you will find some interesting things.  That's exactly what I did late last week.  It was a cool, damp, foggy morning here in New Jersey.  As I looked at the fog in the morning light, I thought that there has to be some interesting images I could create.  So I ventured out in search of some interesting things to take pictures of.

Below are a few of the images I captured during my 1 hour or so of being out and about.  All of the images are taking with the Canon 60D using an 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS lens.  Images were imported into Adobe Lightroom for cataloging and post processing.  Some of the images were then also brought into onOne's Perfect Effects for finishing touches.

How often do you take photographs when the weather is less than ideal?

What is this blog all about anyway?

Welcome to the Blog!

Jay Yadlovski

Who am I and what is this all about?

My name is Jason Yadlovski.  I am a husband, father, photographer and landscape architect.  I’m driven by the need to help others by providing honest, quality photography and landscape design services and information.  Seeing the smile on a persons face when they receive their photographs or design is priceless.  I also love to learn new things and share the knowledge I have with others.

My goals are two fold – First, I want to be able to share information I know about photography and landscape architecture though this blog.  Everything from how I do various tasks and the tools I use to what I'm currently working on.  Second I want to be able to provide great quality photography and landscape architectural services for anyone who has a need for either service.  Photography is my passion and I truly enjoy making images that capture emotion, beauty, and the world around me.  For more information about me and my background, take a look at my About Me page.  You can also see samples of my work using the links on the left side of this page.

This is my first post as I get this blog going.  I'm looking forward to being able to share things I'm working on as well as my knowledge in Photography, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Landscape Architecture and more through tips, techniques, and the way in which I complete tasks.  Thank you for stopping in!  I hope you check back soon for updates!
